Jets training camp Day 13 was a lighter practice on Wednesday, August 19, coming between Tuesday’s longer Day 12 session and Friday’s game against Pittsburgh. Cade Klubnik worked through a late stretch that included two red-zone touchdowns, and Cade York made all five of his kicks, including one from 60 yards. Qwan’tez Stiggers returned to practice in a red non-contact jersey, and Aaron Glenn said he plans to play his starters Friday against Pittsburgh, though that plan can still change. Practice wrapped up by approximately 10:10 AM ET.
Cade Klubnik Gives the Offense Its Best Stretch
Rich Cimini had Klubnik 5-for-5 so far late in practice, including two short red-zone touchdown passes to Jelani Woods and Kene Nwangwu. Within this lighter session, it stands as his sharpest reported work of the day.
Connor Hughes watched Klubnik complete a short pass to Garrett Wilson behind good blocking from Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, with the Woods touchdown following that sequence.
Klubnik’s preseason debut against Tampa Bay came earlier this month.
Cimini also credited the defense with a good day overall, pointing to a tackle for loss from Jowon Briggs, a sack on Klubnik from Harrison Phillips and a pass breakup from Dane Belton.
Geno Smith’s Light Day Ends 0-for-3
Connor Hughes reported that Geno Smith finished 0-for-3 in Wednesday’s practice, with two additional completed passes erased, one by a penalty and the other by an obvious would-be sack from Jarvis Brownlee.
Antwan Staley described Wednesday as a lighter practice after Tuesday’s longer session.
The Jets’ Day 11 practice came two days earlier.
Cade York Answers in the Kicking Competition
Cade York made all five of his field goal attempts, according to Antwan Staley and Rich Cimini, with a make that showed 60-yard range.
Jason Sanders went 4-for-5 in his own period, and Cimini could not share the distances on those attempts.
The Jets’ roster projection from earlier this summer had projected Sanders as the kicker before camp began.
Stiggers Returns as Glenn Weighs Friday’s Starters
Zack Rosenblatt reported that Qwan’tez Stiggers returned to practice, and Brian Costello reported he wore a red non-contact jersey.
Connor Hughes reported that Aaron Glenn plans to play his players Friday against Pittsburgh, though the plan can still change.
Antwan Staley reported that Glenn plans to play the starters against Pittsburgh, with the plan still able to change.
Rich Cimini reported that Glenn wants to play the starters but remained noncommittal on Smith because of the ankle, balancing caution with opening-day readiness. The ankle is keeping Smith’s role in that game unsettled for now.
The Jets also signed WR Junior Bergen and waived/injured WR DT Sheffield on Wednesday.
