Jets Announce Split with Aaron Rodgers
February 13, 2025Aaron Rodgers Departure: C.J. Mosley Reflects on His Impact with the Jets

Aaron Rodgers’ time with the New York Jets is coming to an end, marking a chapter that didn’t meet expectations. After being traded from the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers’ tenure was marred by injuries and team struggles. He missed almost the entire 2023 season due to a torn Achilles and led the team to a 5-12 record in 2024. These challenges led to significant organizational changes, including the departures of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
Mosley’s Perspective
Despite the setbacks, Jets captain C.J. Mosley emphasizes the positive aspects of Rodgers’ time with the team. In a recent interview, Mosley stated, “We tried to do something special. Injuries took part in that, took away a lot of time. He did do some great things this year, getting his 500th [passing] touchdown. He was a leader no matter what when he came into the locker room, when he was with us this year.” Mosley believes that Rodgers should not leave New York with his head down, acknowledging the effort and leadership he brought to the team.

Uncertain Future
As the Jets transition under new leadership with coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey, Rodgers’ future remains uncertain. The team faces financial considerations regarding his contract, with potential dead cap implications depending on whether they trade or release him before or after June 1. Rodgers, approaching 42, has yet to announce his plans, leaving open the possibility of retirement or continuing his career elsewhere.
Looking Ahead
Mosley, who has one year remaining on his contract with the Jets, believes Rodgers still has the ability to perform at a high level. He remarked, “We’ve seen him sling the ball around. He can definitely still play ball. He was real mobile towards the end of the year, so that was fun to watch.” As the Jets prepare for the upcoming season, the organization and its fans will reflect on Rodgers’ contributions and the challenges faced during his tenure, while looking forward to new opportunities and leadership under the team’s evolving roster and management.
