Jets UDFA Signings: Good Players Coming Into Camp
May 1, 2023Randall Cobb Joins The Jets
May 3, 2023Following the trade of Aaron Rodgers to the Jets, Zach Wilson made headlines when he expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside the veteran quarterback. Although Wilson had no idea that the trade was going to happen when he made those statements. Rodgers was aware of his comments and admitted that Wilson would give him a hard time in practice. However, Rodgers also expressed his willingness to mentor and guide the young quarterback. He hopes that he could pass on some of his knowledge and experience to him.
As part of the Jets’ grand plan, Rodgers would play for two years, during which time Wilson would hopefully learn from him and develop into the quarterback they envisioned when they drafted him. While this is certainly an unconventional approach, the Jets believe that it could pay off in the long run. Even though Wilson has only two years left on his contract, the Jets are willing to take a chance on him and see how he develops.

Rodgers To Mentor Wilson
Rodgers sees himself as an integral part of Wilson’s development. Stating that he plans to be a great mentor to him, and to teach him fundamental stuff that can help him in his career. He believes that Wilson, despite two difficult seasons, has the potential to be a special player in the NFL. By being around Rodgers, Wilson can learn how to lead. He must interact with teammates, and pick up some tips and tricks to help him improve his game.
The two quarterbacks have known each other for a while. Having become friendly two years ago when Wilson went pro and was recruited by Rodgers to sign with his agent. They reconnected at the Jets-Packers joint practices in 2021 and have been texting buddies ever since. Wilson grew up idolizing Rodgers, and the four-time MVP’s willingness to mentor him is a dream come true for the young quarterback.
Overall, the Jets are taking a calculated risk by following this unconventional approach. While it remains to be seen whether it will pay off, it’s clear that they believe in Wilson’s potential, and with Rodgers by his side, he could become one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks in the coming years.
