May 9, 2023The New York Jets’ offseason has already been filled with a multitude of storylines, and recently, offensive tackle Mekhi Becton contributed to the chatter on Twitter by proudly declaring, “I. AM. A. LEFT. TACKLE!!!”.
Interestingly enough, Becton’s proclamation came on the heels of comments from head coach Robert Saleh regarding upcoming competitions for several roles on the offensive line, including which tackle position Becton would be vying for.
Robert Saleh’s response to Mekhi Becton’s deleted tweet from this morning:

Saleh told reporters at a Friday news conference, “We’re gonna play our best five. So, you can assume AVT (Alijah Vera-Tucker) is the best right guard, I’ll say that. And (right guard) Laken (Tomlinson). And then at center and both tackles, it’s gonna be a really cool competition along the entire offensive line.”
Although Becton has since deleted his tweet, Saleh spoke with reporters again on Saturday and was asked about Becton’s preferred position.
“Go earn the left tackle,” Saleh replied confidently. “Competition.” With the Jets preparing to revamp their playbook and strategy for the upcoming season, eager fans and experts alike will undoubtedly be analyzing Becton’s performance and lobbying for him to secure his desired role in the offensive line.
